Mr. Ben was hand-picked by Master Pat Tray to assist and manage the initial program of instruction at the original Trident Academy of Martial Arts in Northern Virginia. He was Mr. Tray’s right hand man for both the kids and adult programs beginning in November, 1998. He served as the Program Manager and Lead Instructor for the Adult and Kids for the first two years.

Current Role

He now serves as the Program Manager and Webmaster, Multimedia/Social Media production and marketing for Trident.  He still teaches pretty much anything and everything around the school for the kids and adults as needed, focusing on the Kids Programs and the development of the Online Training Modules, a cutting edge reference for students off the mat.

Senior Full Instructor of Trident Martial Arts

Ben is originally from North Carolina and would travel to Virginia Beach (Pre-Trident Garage Days) for Intense private study with Mr. Tray. The countless hours of training in Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts and Muay Thai, led to a Full Instructorship early 1999 when the Academy was in its infancy stage. Trident Martial Arts, encompassing Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts and Muay Thai/Thai Kickboxing originally.   Ben also was one of Woodbridge, VA's first Blue Belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Master Rigan Machado), something virtually unheard of during that time.

Military Veteran

Captain Ben Gilbert is a Military Veteran and former Infantry Officer, having served his country in the Army for nearly 10 years, leaving active duty shorty after his tour in Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom. He also served in the Medical Laboratory enlisted corps, prior to commissioning. His military background heavily influences his teaching style and structured arrangement of the kids and adults classes.
