Ivan Rios

Ivan is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 1st Degree Black Belt under Carlson Gracie, Jr. Professor Ivan Rios is a volunteer instructor at Trident Academy in Woodbridge, VA and he teaches BJJ Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30PM.

Black Belt BJJ Instructor

Over 35 years of Martial Arts/Defensive Tactics experience with 18 years in law Enforcement as a Tactical and Raids Instructor; Firearms Instructor; Combatives Tactics Instructor; combat and competitive pistol shooter.

  • Brazilian (Gracie) Jiu-Jitsu practitioner – 1st Degree Black Belt under Carlson Gracie Jr.
  • Krav Maga - Civilian / Law Enforcement Instructor.
  • USA Combatives practitioner.
  • Japanese Ju-Jitsu practitioner – 4th Degree black belt.
  • Tae Kwon Do (ITF) – 1st Degree Black Belt.
  • Kick-Boxing
  • S.P.E.A.R. Self Defense System Instructor.
  • Certified Federal Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics Instructor.
  • Certified State of Virginia Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics Instructor.
  • Also practiced Judo and Karate.
  • Law Enforcement Experience

    During his 18 years in law enforcement, Mr. Rios obtained certification as Firearms, Defensive and Tactical & Raids Instructor. In Addition, Mr. Rios worked as a law enforcement instructor and took advance courses in SWAT, SRT, Executive Protection, Tactical Medicine First Responder and Advance Combat Rifle/Carbine School.

    Military Experience

    Mr. Rios served in the U.S. Navy as a Special Boat Team Operator (Maritime Special Operations) and in the U.S. Army as a Tactical Intelligence Officer. He is also a veteran of the 1991 Persian Gulf War.  

    Education

    Mr. Rios also completed a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s of Art degree in Criminal Justice Management. Mr. Rios is also fluent in Spanish.

      Caballero, It has been 13 years since we last saw each other and I came across this site – what a surprise to see your name! We may be neighbors again and not know it. I have been in the area for about a year now.
